How does azithromycin work?
Acne is usually caused by bacteria on the skin reaching the oil glands and causing infection and inflammation. Azithromycin's action prevents bacteria from growing by interfering with their protein synthesis. This helps reduce the number of bacteria on this skin, which means inflammation is less likely to occur and therefore reduces the risk of acne formation.
Recommendations for the use of azithromycin in tablets
The tablets are usually taken with or without food once a day for 1 to 5 days. This means that you can take 250 mg to 500 mg (1 or 2 tablets) per day, depending on the severity of your condition. To help you remember to take Azithromycin, take it at the same time every day.
It is strongly recommended that you follow the dosage instructions provided with this medication.
Do not take antacids that contain aluminum or magnesium within 2 hours before or after taking azithromycin. They can make azithromycin less effective when taken at the same time.
