Description

Megamentin 1000 is a penicillin-type antibiotic produced by Intas Pharmaceuticals. This product is a combination of two medications: Amoxicillin, which is an antibiotic, and Clavulanate Potassium, which is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It is used to treat bacterial infections of the ear, sinuses, throat, lungs, urinary tract, skin, teeth, joints, and bones. It does not work for viral infections, such as the common cold. It is often used to treat a skin condition called acne, which is caused by bacteria.

Properties and effects

The two substances work together to kill the bacteria that cause infections. Amoxicillin stops the growth of bacteria and clavulanate potassium reduces resistance and enhances the activity of amoxicillin against bacteria. The global action of medicine is to prevent the formation of the protective cover of bacteria, which is essential for their survival.

Recommendations for use

The necessary dose of medicine depends on the severity of the infection. One 1000 mg tablet is usually taken twice a day (ideally every 12 hours). The symptoms of the infection should subside within a few days, but the medicine should be taken for a few more days, even after the symptoms are gone, to ensure that all the bacteria are killed.
